Senior Cloud Engineer (GovCloud / FedRAMP)

• • Boston (United States)

Job description

🌍 We’re making security suck less for developers.

Security tools haven’t kept up with how software is built today. They interrupt teams, slow releases, and turn security into a bottleneck instead of a capability. We built Aikido to change that. Aikido builds developer-first security products that reduce real risk without getting in the way of shipping software. We focus on what actually matters and automate the rest.

We’re taking on legacy security tools teams have been stuck with, and we’re winning. If you want to help us take market share and build products developers actually enjoy using, you’re in the right place.

Founded in 2022 by third-time founders, Aikido has $85M in the bank, a long runway ahead, and unicorn status. We’re building toward self-securing software. Join an all-star team. Take real ownership. Push boundaries. Build things that matter.

As a Senior Cloud Engineer at Aikido, you’ll build and operate the cloud systems behind our FedRAMP environment. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who writes application and infrastructure code, understands how production cloud platforms work, and is comfortable operating what they build.

You’ll work across the boundary between software and infrastructure: adapting Aikido’s platform for AWS GovCloud, building automation and services, improving reliability, and troubleshooting real product issues. You’ll collaborate with our broader engineering team while taking practical ownership of the systems that support our federal customers.

We’re looking for a strong general-purpose engineer with roughly 5-7 years of experience, or hands-on ability. You may have come up through software engineering, cloud engineering, or DevOps. What matters most is that you can write code, understand cloud infrastructure, and get things done in production.

Responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and operate services and infrastructure for Aikido’s U.S. public sector cloud environment.

• Write production-quality code in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Go, or similar languages.

• Build and maintain infrastructure as code using Terraform, CloudFormation, or comparable tools.

• Work with AWS services and cloud-native systems, with AWS GovCloud experience especially useful.

• Understand and improve multi-tenant SaaS systems, including their architecture, security, reliability, and operational needs.

• Adapt and deliver platform capabilities in a regulated cloud environment, working with the broader Aikido engineering team.

• Debug issues across application code, infrastructure, deployments, and integrations using logs, metrics, traces, and cloud tooling.

• Use command-line and developer tools effectively, including AWS CLI, Git, CI/CD systems, and AI-assisted coding tools such as Cursor.

• Explore and apply agentic systems and automation to improve cloud engineering and operations.

• Participate in production operations, incident response, deployments, and ongoing service improvement.

• Document systems and operational procedures so the team can support them reliably.

Job requirements

• Around 5–7 years of relevant experience, or equivalent demonstrated ability building and operating software or cloud systems.

• Strong coding ability in at least one of Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Go.

• Practical experience building or operating infrastructure on AWS; experience with GCP or Azure is also valuable.

• Experience with infrastructure as code, such as Terraform or CloudFormation.

• Understanding of cloud networking, identity and access management, compute, storage, databases, and monitoring.

• Familiarity with production SaaS architecture, ideally including multi-tenant systems.

• A track record of debugging and solving problems across application and infrastructure layers.

• Comfortable working hands-on in production environments, taking ownership, and learning unfamiliar systems.

• Able to work independently and collaborate with a distributed engineering team.

• U.S. citizenship is required for access to the FedRAMP environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS GovCloud, FedRAMP, federal, defense, or other regulated cloud environments.

• Experience with Kubernetes, containers, and service-oriented architectures.

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, observability, and incident response.

• Familiarity with security engineering, cloud security, or compliance-driven operations.

• Experience using AI coding assistants or building agentic workflows for engineering tasks.

• Experience working with multiple cloud providers, including GCP or Azure

What you can expect

• Short decision lines. Big ownership. Shape the projects that matter and ship fast.

• Grow as fast as we do. Take on more, own more, and carve out your own path.

• Top-tier tech pay and equity.

• High trust, strong values, zero corporate BS.

• Flexibility in working hours.

• A company that sticks to its values in an open and informal atmosphere.

We hire for talent, drive, and potential. Everything else is noise.
